Mechanic Assistant (Wood River, IL) - Economy Boat Store

Since 1936, Economy Boat Store has been providing quality products and services to the barge transportation industry. Economy Boat sells diesel fuel, lube oil, groceries, meat, rope, rigging and many assorted marine supplies and services to our US Inland Waterway and Gulf Coast customers. The Company also provides liquid terminalling services. Pilot Thomas Logistics is the parent company of the Economy Boat Store.
Position Summary:
Responsible for maintaining the mobile fleet and facilities and coordinating all required repairs.
Essential Responsibilities:
Maintain inventory of parts necessary to perform job (i.e., bulbs, gloves, fittings, etc.).
Evaluates poor running vessels & company vehicles and ensures proper diagnosis and repair.
Provide regular maintenance of fleet equipment and facilities.
Review vessel inspection reports and insure all repairs are made to USCG and Company standards.
Perform all required USCG and RCP (RESPONSIBLE CARRIER PROGRAM) services and inspections; keep up-to-date vessel files and ensure that the Company is in regulatory compliance.
Keep fleet in compliance with all USCG and RCP regulations.
Ensure that vessels & company vehicles are always in a safe operating condition.

Special projects as requested
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
2-5 years of experience in the heavy mechanical industry, diesel engine experience and hydraulics preferred; experience with fluid pumping and metering systems a plus.
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot performance issues with and without diagnostic equipment.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedural manuals, assembly and wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting trees.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral instruction form.
Basic understanding of: internal combustion engines (both gas and diesel), DC electrical systems, air systems, welding techniques, fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems.
Must be self-motivated with excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize repair events.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to identify all colors, as required by USCG standards.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Associate's degree preferred
Mechanic certification preferred
Valid driver's license
Working Conditions:
Have a strong commitment to safe working practices
Heavy physical effort (up to 100 lbs)
Hearing, talking, walking, periods of prolonged standing, sitting or crouching



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
